Mario, the red overalled Sonic slayer and winner of Death Battle's 100th episode
Superman, the starman who beat Goku and won the Death Battle episode 50
If there is anything we love about Death Battle, it's the characters seeing your favorite fight someone else and seeing if they win. It just excites us all, but what doesn't excite us is when they are poorly represented, like these two starmen in the sky...or ground.
Before We Begin
For a fight like this, we will only be looking at the Death Battle fight versions of them, excluding the analysis, their first episode, and any actual canon versions of these two. With that set, let's kill your comfort character if these guys even are...

Background
Mario

The year was 2018, and the newest Death Battle episode was revealed to be Mario vs Sonic, a rematch of Mario vs Sonic (2011) with a brand-new hand-drawn style for the death battles' 100th episode. But every hero needs their own break, and that's what this plumber was taking until his chair was stolen by the blue blur himself, Sonic the Hedgehog. In a fit of rage, Mario was "forced" to engage in battle. It was close, and both were forced to resort to a last stand at combat, but at the end of the day, he took down the hedgehog, creating a giant mushroom cloud, allowing him to go 1-1 with Sonic. And finally, he was able to take that vacation in that chair, just like the plumber had wanted.
Superman
The year was 2015, and Death Battle had announced its 50th episode, Goku vs Superman, a new take on the classic episode Goku vs Superman (2013). Still, of course this story takes place after the destruction of earth and using the dragon balls superman had reverted the damage caused by Goku and himself yet superman was faced with the saiyan once more this time he had new forms after a battle for the not so very ages superman had taken down the saiyan once more by lasering his brain despite superman feeling guilty he still won the episode "saving" the city in the proccess. His victory did allow him to go 0-2 with Goku.
Skill & Experience
Mario
Mario is the main physical fighter in his episode, usually throwing punches, and is great at overwhelming opponents. Those faster than him, although if that's not working, Mario has a good range to keep foes at bay. He is also extremely resourceful, using basically any item he can find to his advantage; whether it was double cherries, cat bells, stars, etc., he could make use of all of them. During his fight, he has around 3 minutes of fighting experience.
Superman
Superman, in his episode, is insanely impressive, matching blows with Son Goku, who trains in this kind of battle. Superman was capable of outmatching him, dodging his attacks with ease, and, with his heat vision, working at a distance and up close to further pressure his opponent. Superman has around 6 minutes of experience in his fight.
Arsenal
Mario
Beach Umbrella

Shades Mario from the sun because it’s a beach umbrella…
Beach Chair

Cat Bell
The item puts Mario in a cat suit, allowing him to claw away at foes, even those on fire!
Double Cherry
Clones Mario and are stackable with the power he is currently using. In total, Mario has 9 double Cherries.
Super Star
Makes Mario completely immune to damage, although he can still feel pain. The Super Star lasts for around 32 seconds.
Wing Cap
Allows Mario to fly at extremely high speeds!
...Uh
Shades
Blocks his eyes from the sun because they're shades.
Superman

Allows Superman to wish for stuff (But he only wished for the planet to return)
Powers & Abilities

Weaknesses
Mario
Mario is prone to getting angry easily, and against faster foes, he has to rely on his arsenal.
Superman
Superman can pretty easily get ragdolled and, for some reason, likes to just tank attacks.
Before The Verdict
Did Mario Tank Hyper Sonic's Attack?
This one is simple: we know that Mario lost his power from getting damaged, and, as seen with the wingcap powers Mario is using, the star and the catbell are also affected by the star and the catbell; therefore, Mario did taank the attack.
Planetary Superman?
Verdict
Stats
This category is pretty simple Mario's best feat in base would be the cloud splitting feat clocking in at 275.83 Megatons while Superman can go up to 1 Petaton of TNT speed was similar case Mario scaling to Sonic puts him at Mach 5 but Superman at his low end was Mach 66 and gets up to Mach 6,508 surprisingly durability went to Mario fairly easily Superman's best would be scaling to goku or just his own AP which would put him at 1 Petaton of TNT while Mario was far above that using the super star would reverse the power gap entirely Mario would get to 88 Yottatons and would be still be slower due to it 18%c c vs 27%c so Mario surprisingly takes Stats.
Skill & Expereriance
Mario is no slouch in this category; he has a pretty good strategy, usually trying to overwhelm foes, and 3 minutes of experience is nothing to scoff at (in terms of DB fights), but Superman could contend with Goku, who trains in battle and has double the amount of experience as Mario. Superman takes Skill & Experience.
Arsenal & Abilites
Mario has way more to pull from cloning, cat bells, invincibilty ane then some, while Superman has the dragon balls, he only wished to restore the planet, and it has never been used in a fight. Mario takes Arsenal but not Abilities. Superman's laser vision was already strong enough to get rid of a majority of Mario's items, but Superman's flight was faster than Mario's. Superman takes Abilities.
Weaknesses
This category is confusing, as both suffer from very bad weaknesses. In Mario's case, he can't defend against foes with a speed advantage very well without the use of power-ups, so if he ran out at any time in the fight, it would be game-over buy. Superman was a similar boat where he allows himself to get hit, which, if caught by Mario with a Super Star, would immediately kill him. The safest bet is to say that Weaknesses is a tie.
Wincons
The big category that decides it all lets start with Mario's win conditions. He'd need to use the Super Star and Wing Cap and land one attack to instantly kill Superman on the other side of things, despite that durability gap. Superman could use his heat vision to dura-neg Mario, so it all comes down to who would pull it out first and really it wasn't all too hard Mario would need to pull both star and wingcap out almost immedently or he'd get speedblitzed and he had little to no way to stall with his clones since they could be instantly killed and given how in base he was too slow to use most wincons effectively it's a big stretch for it to work out for him in contrast Superman had the inital stat edge and Base Mario didnt have many ways to reliably fight back factor in his heat vision bypassing the durability the fact Mario being more brutal meaning Superman would try to take him out faster Superman tips the scale and takes Wincons.
Summary
Mario
"I'm the winner!"
Advantages:
- Far Greater Versatility
- Too Durable to be hurt...
- Super Star means he takes Power by a huge margin...
- More Brutal
- Wingcap helps loosen the speed gap...
- Better Episode
Disadvantages:
- Slower, no matter what ends
- ...but Superman can negate his durability
- ...but still initially weaker
- Couldn't avoid heat vision
- ...but still slower
- Less Skilled and Experienced
- Worse Characterization
Superman
"I'm sorry."
Advantages:
- Faster no matter what ends
- Could bypass Mario's durability
- Heat vision made it harder for Mario to use items
- Far more Skill and Experience
- Initially Stronger...
- Dragon Balls could technically do anything...
- More likely to go for the kill due to Mario's brutality
- Amazing Track
Disadvantages:
- Most Physical attacks wouldn't do much
- Mario had more Variety
- ...Superstar Mario is far above him
- ...but never has shown it
- His episode is so ass, bro.
Conclusion
So this is pretty surprising to me. Initially, I thought Mario would win due to versatility and moon splitting, but Superman has too many ways to win via Heat vision. This was a passion project until I rewatched GVS2 more than 5 times, and it's now like my 12th least favorite episode, but that matter is for another day cause this plumber got Mari-owned and just couldn't contend with how Super this man was...
Tally
Mario (0)-Mamma Mia
Superman (1)-Edwin
Thank You For Reading!
I heard this thing was going to be made and feared some serious Mario wank (and DC wank, but DB's research team has already claimed all the things it needed to in that regard). I didn't expect this, that was just fun. Nice job.
